1980 Stanley Cup Finals

The 1980 Stanley Cup Finals was contested by the New York Islanders and the Philadelphia Flyers. The Islanders won the best-of-seven series 4-2 to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. Islanders’ center Bryan Trottier was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs. The Islanders were led by players such as Trottier, Mike Bossy, and Denis Potvin and this win marked the beginning of a successful period for the franchise, as they went on to win four Stanley Cups in a row from 1980-1983.
