The 1979 Stanley Cup Finals was contested by the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Rangers. The Canadiens won the best-of-seven series 4-1 to win their fourth Stanley Cup in a row and their 22nd overall. Montreal’s Peter Mahovlich was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs. The Canadiens were led by legendary players such as Guy Lafleur, Larry Robinson, and Steve Shutt, while the Rangers were making their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 1972.
